Below are some of my past and current employment experiences.

ASSAI (2020-present)

I am currently employed with SD73 working in the after-school programs. I absolutely love going into the different and working with a range of students on different art and sports skills. This program has given me the opportunity to meet and connect with so many unique and different students. Throughout my time in the after-school program I have learned how truly unique every student is. Each student has a different personality and unique set of skills. I have discovered my love for wanting to learn more about each student and see them improve their skills. As a future educator I am able to appreciate every student’s unique ability. As a classroom teacher, I will take the opportunity to create proper UDL and DI strategies that will enhance and showcase these skills and abilities. I am thankful for my time working in the after school programs and I am excited to learn and grow even more during my time here.

YMCA After School Program/Summer Camp (2019-2020)

While working for the YMCA as a leader in the after-school program and summer camp, I gained a great deal of confidence working with kids. I had the opportunity to build positive relationships with the children in the program, while ensuring their safety and well-being. The day to day interactions I was able to have with the children helped me become a more confident leader and person. As the months progressed, I began to feel more confident interacting, managing, and supervising children. Without the experience of working at the YMCA, I may have never gained the skills and confidence needed in order to succeed in the education program or become a successful teacher.

Childcare Provider (2016)

While working as a childcare provider at our local daycare, I worked with infants all the way up to school aged children. This was one of my first experiences working with groups of children and therefore is where my desire for teaching first began. My role as a childcare provider is what introduced me to working with kids and without this role, I may have never discovered my passion for working with children.

Lifeguard/ Swim instructor (2015-2016)

As a swim instructor, I had the opportunity to teach kids from 12 months to 13 years of age how to swim. This experience taught me the importance of patience and clear instruction. I quickly learned how important it is to give students clear instructions, whether that is in the water or in a classroom. In order for students to follow directions they need to have a clear understanding of what they are expected to do. In order to be a successful teacher, it is important to be able to have clear goals and objectives for your students as well as patients with them, while they work towards these goals and objectives. Teaching swimming lessons was one of the first experiences that helped me realize this.
